「International Catalogue and Sample Show 2007」

Opening Ceremony Remarks

by Mr. Lee, Shih-Wen, Executive Director of IEAT

Time: 11 a.m., Monday, June 11
Place: Meeting rooms no. 3, 4, 5, Level 2, (Taipei World Trade Center)

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
Good morning.  On behalf of the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei, I wish to welcome all of you to the opening ceremony of the International Catalogue and Sample Show 2007.  As the organizer, the IEAT is thankful to all those who have made this event possible - event sponsor the Board of Foreign Trade, co-organizer TAITRA, and the twenty-two foreign Trade Representatives participating to put on display such a comprehensive collection of catalogues and samples of high-quality products from each country. Also worthy of note is that this show is one of the many activities held to mark the IEAT 60th founding anniversary. It is, therefore, our honor that you grace the occasion to contribute to further opportunities of trade cooperation.
Since its establishment, the IEAT has been committed to serving the needs of importers and exporters as well as promoting the country's foreign trade. Our efforts go beyond protecting members' interests, acting as a bridge between government and the industry, and making policy recommendations. All the year round, there are various activities to help members develop overseas outlets or make purchase of foreign products. These include study missions, exhibition tours, trade negotiations or seminars on market outlets. With globalization, competition is taking on new forms. The trading industry must learn to operate by increased division of job and cooperation with other sectors. Particularly local companies, which are consist mostly medium and small-sized ventures with limited resources; they need to reach out to foreign businesses for further growth. In view of this, the IEAT has been working closely with various foreign trade representatives on activities of mutual interests. One such project is the annual International Catalogue and Sample Show, which enjoys great success. The event this year, held in conjunction with the IEAT 60th anniversary, operates on a scale larger than any before. Representation from a larger number of regions has brought about increased participation. There are from Europe the representative offices of Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom; from Asia, the offices of Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines; from North America, those of Mexico, the AIT Agricultural Trade Office, and the states of Iowa, Missouri, Arizona, Maryland, Montana, and Pennsylvania; from Oceania, Australia and Fiji; and last but not least, the Central, Eastern Europe and CIS Association. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation and cooperation. To those of you who have not been able to take part in the show, I wish to express regret for the lack of space and I look forward to your participation next year.
In this show, there are hundreds of fine, high-quality products of enormous market potential. The rich variety is sure to offer something that might interest you. Take your time browsing. Feel free to approach the staff manning the booths. Have fun in the lucky draw; prizes consist of souvenir items from each participating country. I wish you many wonderful moments browsing the exhibits.
Finally, I would like to thank you once again for being here with us on today. I wish the show every success, and every one of you great health and happiness.
  Thank you.
