Winery and Vineyards

Bodega Central is located in the city of Chilecito, head of the Department of the same name, in the Province of La Rioja, Argentina. Wines and Grape Juice torrontés Riojano are made here. The grapes come from the vineyards of its more than 400 small and medium-sized associated producers, distributed in six departments of the Famatina Valleys.

This productive valley is in itself a natural paradise for wine cultivation, due to its clay soil to sandy clay of alluvial type, where vineyards of height are cultivated (ranging between 900 and 1400 meters above sea level). These benefit from the East-West solar radiation, the thermal amplitude of the pedemonte, with warm days and cold nights; in addition to the low ambient humidity and low rainfall, which barely exceed 180 mm per year.

These natural conditions favor the cultivation of the vines, which transmit to the fruit characteristics of unique aroma, color and flavor. The careful and careful elaboration is certified in ISO 9001/2015, BRC, Organic Production and Fairtrade Standards.

Our Winemakers

The Oenology Team is made up of seven professionals, under the direction of Dr. in Oenology, Rodolfo Luis Griguol, a respected and recognized professional, teacher and researcher from Argentina. Rodolfo works at La Riojana Coop. for more than 25 years.

As a result of his research in Biotechnology, Rodolfo discovered the existence of native yeasts involved in the fermentation of Torrontés Riojano. This conclusion came after five years of research that allowed him to isolate from spontaneous fermentations of torrontés Riojano four types of yeasts, two of them killer: one neutral and one sensitive in percentages that are maintained in perfect biological balance throughout the fermentation. The use of this yeast – now internationally marketed – allows to produce Torrontés Riojano wines of fine and delicate aroma and flavor, eliminating with its use the wild touches and the fatigue of the palate with which it was previously associated.

The characterization and originality of the Torrontés Riojano motivated the request and subsequent presentation of the Controlled Designation of Origin "Valles del Famatina – Torrontés Riojano" at the XXI World Congress of Vine and Wine - 75th General Assembly of the O.I.V. in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in November 1.995.

The team of Winemakers pursues as its main objective the obtaining of wines of great varietal expression.
